Folks

I am planning to travel to sun n fun and arrive early sat morning and leave after 6pm. For those veterans of Lakeland what are your recomendations with respect to parking?   Mine is an lnc2 and my concern is prop strike on turf.  Also, what kind of tie down provisions exist in the likely parking locations?

Ps so far wx is looking like IFR arrival early sat morning. Any practical advice on getting into Lal outside of the notam would be appreciated

Thanks

Tom

Tom,  I don't have experience with parking but the NOTAM says bring your own tie downs.   If you look up the tie down review in Aviation consumer from the last SNF you will be well informed.

I'm going Wednesday and will be parking in GA Camping on the grass until we leave on Saturday.  I think most parking is off the hard surfaces.  I've gone several years now in my Cessna.  This will be the first time in the IV-P.  We take plywood squares for the tires so they don't sink into the dirt.  Make sure you study the Notam before you go, including the part about a sign for your window to tell ground handlers where you want to go.

I had already studied the notam in detail.  It stated bring your own tie downs but it did not say if you needed to supply your own screw in spikes also or if they string cables to attach your tie downs to.  I was thinking of parking in the homebuilt area any reason why you would recommend otherwise?

Thanks

I can assure you that you will need to bring everything necessary to hold the plane to the ground, spikes, hammer, rope, connectors and perhaps a few spares just in case.  For wind, bring something to lock the control surfaces too.  you can buy all the tie-down kits at SnF also.

No, the homebuilt area would be perfect.  It's almost certainly on grass.  You will need your own ground engaging tie downs.  I use the corkscrew type like dog owners use.  They didn't fare vary well in the tornado a few years ago for many aircraft but I think most people still use them.  The ground is pretty soft and sandy.

and I saw the post about bringing plywood to put under tires.  How hard is it to tow the plane (ES) onto them?

I've always brought a couple guys in the 210 to help me.  I don't know how hard it's going to be in the IV-P or in your ES.  We'll find a way.  You pretty much need to roll the plane out of the lineup when you leave anyway, so you don't blow planes and tents around behind you.  Even small pieces of plywood help us get it rolling when it's time to leave.

Sky Geek and Aircraft Spruce probably sell it.

Folks at sun n fun

I plan to turn up tomorrow morning

Debating if I should go to the FBO for the overnight or the homebuilt section.  If I can get tie down devices at all I will go to the south side.  Can anybody confirm I could buy spikes in lakeland?

Thanks

Tom

who can we buy those from?

and I saw the post about bringing plywood to put under tires.  How hard is it to tow the plane (ES) onto them?

Hey Tom

We just got here. After I quench my thirst I will be scouting for the claw. They said I could tie up after the air show.

I copied this design using 6061 Aluminum Angle and 1/4" Titanium Rod from

eBay.  Tie down lines are 3/8" Yacht Braid from a Boat Supply store.  With

the angle of pull from a low wing, I think this is about as good as you can

get.  When you pull straight up they come out easy too.  All you have to

worry about are the planes tied down next to you.
