Debi,

Can you give me details to support the Lancair decision to stop selling the

ACT ELT p/n E-01 "due to poor quality"?

There are quite a few Lancairs flying with this ELT and if you have negative

information on this ELT, I'm sure they would ALL like to know about it.

To All

I have been flying my lancair 290 for 6 years with an ACK ELT .  When I first

installed it, it would activate when I transmitted on certain frequencies.  I

sent it in to ACK and they updated it.  Since I reinstalled, it has activated

when transmitting once or twice.  I like the ACK and may use it in my Lancair

IV but I will Talk to ACK before I buy it to see if this is still a problem.

I have been flying with the ACK for the last 1.5yr in my IVP.  In the test

flight phase, triggering the com at certain frequencies did indeed set off

the ELT.  Investigation revealed that the ELT antenna was mounted too close

to the com antenna in the tail (within two feet).  I moved the ELT antenna

forward (just inside and forward of the aft compartment access panel) and

have had no problems since. Doug Johnson N654DM

There were some problems with the ACK ELT some years back which had to do

with it being triggered by transmitting on your com radio, particularly the

King kx-155/165 series. If you send it back to ACK they will add a resistor

and a choke to the remote control box  cable  for little or no cost. The

obvious fix is to merely route the ELT remote control line on the opposite

side of the fuselage from the com antenna wires. It works fine in many

installations (mine!) I'm aware of so send that other (EXPENSIVE) thing

back !

I have an ACK-01 ELT installed in my 320, flying since 1994.  It has passed

every test that I have performed on it including pre-flight, post-flight and

shock activation (performed at annual inspection).  I have never had a false

alarm turn-on. The batteries that came with the ELT are Duracell MN1300D and

they last for 5 years under normal circumstances.
