(I'm in Auz at the moment). Luckily, my flight didn't leave till early evening and the deed was scheduled for 13:00 so I was in attendance. Jim had a very experienced friend of ours fly the 6 rather than doing it himself. The engine always ran beautifully and smoothly from the very first start and that was the case for the entire 1.6 hour first flight. Other than being left wing heavy, the 6 performed flawlessly. The engine also worked nicely except for high oil temps. By high, we're talking 240 on the climb out and 240 at higher power settings. Dick (the pilot) elected to continue with the flight but didn't exceed much more than 130mph with the oil temp holding in the 220 range. Water temps were steady in the 180 mark regardless of power setting and max'ed at 210 on the climb out. A short max power run indicated around the 160mph with oil temps rising again to the 245 mark. Temps dropped back to 220 when slowed back to 130mph. With the airspeeds noted it seems Jim's installation is producing around 130-140hp. Well below what I'm doing but then Jim's intake manifold is pretty crude and the 500 CFM 2 barrel may not be quite big enough. More than enough to have fun in, but there is now way he's ever going to catch me. :-) We didn't get into long discussions before I had to leave for the airport but we will be moving the oil cooler to a more productive location which involves some fibreglass work on my part. (RV types don't know squat about fibreglass) Neil
