I have been looking high and low for some decent jacks.  I got lots of input on how to make the jacks but I don't want to build them if I can avoid it.  I found this picture of Dan Olsen's Lancair and would LOVE to find out where he got these crank up jacks.   Anyone know?  I tried to send him an email but got no response.  Also, I don't want to spend $400.

Thanks!

I've attached a drawing for a jackstand that I had
fabricated (x2) by my local welding shop.  Cost me $120 for the pair.
I just told the guy they needed to hold 1,000 lbs. each and he chose the
material.

Ron -

What kind of jack points did you install and where did you put them?

Thanks,

John

Matt,

I bought my jacks from the "The Jack House" 402 934

9200 for about $150.00 each.  I really like and trust

them to do the job.

They are called boat stands. I did not install jack points. They come with a

one foot square pad on them. All I did was put a piece of foam on the one foot

square. I use them to raise the nose gear or to raise the main gear off the

ground. They were very useful for me during the building process. Here is a

web site to see what they look like.

I do the following to jack up the mains on my ES when the wings are
off.  Put a 4-by-4 through the shear box under the wing
bolts.  On the side you want to raise, remove the gear leg fairing
to expose the under-side of the 4-by-4 near the wing bolts.
Secure a jack to the 4-by-4 (e.g., make a hole that will fit whatever
jack you use) and jack it up.  Works great.  No jack
points.  With the wings on, the same procedure will work with a
block of wood placed in the opening to the shear box under the spar.

To raise the nose, I use downward pressure (well distributed via shot
bags) on the tail.  It takes quite a bit of weight to do this, but
it works.  Just block the wheels off so the plane doesn't want to
move.  These strategies work for me.

Ron -

That certainly solves a problem of what and where to put the jack points. But you still have to be aware not to put them on the "thin" areas of the fuselage. Did this matter for your stands?

We used them when we had a big sailboat and needed to work on the bottom. They used a big lift and slings to get it to the stands.

Thanks for the info. Promising option.

I put them where there is strength a bulkhead, spar.  I use the main wing

spar to lift a main wheel. The firewall to lift the nose. The jack has a

Square thread adjusting mechanism. I can just turn it to lift the nose.
