The best material I have seen for glare shield covering is black

Ultra-suede, available at your local fabric store. Ultra-suede is a

polyurethane synthetic material that mimics leather suede. It is light,

flexible and it's matte finish reflects less than any other bolt stock. It

also doesn't shrink with heat and UV.

Ian,

all thoughts are most welcome at this point...

never
thought of that one (in fact didn't know I had a glare shield, what put you
onto this as a source of noise?)

was your vibration airspeed
dependant? Did it make the aircraft sound like a tractor (because mine does
!) ?

Have you tried the glare shield?  Mine gave me all
sorts of vibration noise until I stuffed a piece of foam between it and the
edge of the outside skin over the header tank.  It is as quiet as the
grave now.  I too tried the nose gear door as the noise sounded like it
was partially open.

Just a thought

Dom, lost your private e-mail
will you be at Point
Cook this Saturday 28? I desperately need a wingman to find the source of
this noise-removing the nose gear door didn't
help...

Yes, it was airspeed dependant, around 180 to 200 knots mainly in descent.

We had tried everything else including taking off the nose gear door!  It

still made a helluva noise.

Ian, do  you mean the soft plastic removable panel over the top of the
instruments, thus the equivalent of the dash board in a car ?

If so I
have noticed that this intermittenly emits a buzzing noise when
taxiing...hmmm...will fly on Friday and put my hand on this to see if it is
the source of the noise...
