I'm sure it described that wire as as Oildyne does, i.e., a thermal ground cut-off. If I remember right, it opens on over-temp and should be the return for your pump-control relay coils. That way, if the pump gets too hot (like from running on too long) the thermal protection will turn off the pump relays. This should be able to be confirmed by the factory. I'm pretty sure I'm right and if so, this feature should be hooked up in all our aircraft. But memory being what it is, be sure to confirm with Lancair before doing any rewiring. It sounds like a very good safety feature and could save the pump one day - worth while as they're not cheap! And in my airplane, would be a real SOB to even get at to remove!
