I don't think it is a Matco brake problem as much as it's a ground effect

problem. Just step on the brakes more gently till the plane slows down

enough to get some weight on the wheels. Clevelands don't hold as tight and

might not require as light a touch as the Matcos.

The Matco brake problems seem to be behind us.  I have not noticed any

complaints since the newer model cylinders which can be identified by their

yellow/gold color as opposed to the gray.  At least the SDR frequency is

nil to none.

I switched to the newer Matco cylinders 4 years ago when they came out and

have been trouble free so far.

I think this is a ground effect / piloting problem.

I have the old style gray Matco brake cylinders. Directly after touching

down they lock up

very easily, but when making a maximum brake landing you have to step pretty

hard

at the pedals in the end of rollout. The trick I use is to start retracting

the flaps

directly after touchdown. I have the flap switch on the throttle handle.

When the

flaps are completely retracted I start to brake, gently in the beginning,

and progressivly

harder. I usually turn off at the first taxiway, using 1300 ft of runway.

90 hours of this has given little brake pad wear, but the tires now need

replacing.
