John Cooper wonders whether to use the rudder return springs or go with

something else...

The springs themselves add no additional friction.  The only way friction is

introduced is how the load is transmitted down the cable.  In the case of the

optional in-flight adjustable rudder system (360) the integrated springs

loaded

up the pieces in such a way as to add a lot of friction into the assembly.  I

elected to take them out and to use the standard spring setup described in the

manual.  I'm very satisfied except that this portion of the firewall has

gotten

quite crowded in my setup.

For any of the rudder systems you need something to keep the pedals from

falling

forward as you've already realised.  However, your pulley thought will leave a

bit of freeplay and will be harder to setup.  Freeplay at the rudder might

be a

bad thing.  The springs are easy to install and take up all freeplay.  Keep

them

light so that they don't put excess tension on the cable.
