The springs themselves add no additional friction. The only way friction is introduced is how the load is transmitted down the cable. In the case of the optional in-flight adjustable rudder system (360) the integrated springs loaded up the pieces in such a way as to add a lot of friction into the assembly. I elected to take them out and to use the standard spring setup described in the manual. I'm very satisfied except that this portion of the firewall has gotten quite crowded in my setup. For any of the rudder systems you need something to keep the pedals from falling forward as you've already realised. However, your pulley thought will leave a bit of freeplay and will be harder to setup. Freeplay at the rudder might be a bad thing. The springs are easy to install and take up all freeplay.
