After shifting the 2020 Landing forward into 2021, your board is working hard to present timely topics and a strong agenda. We are working on updates to our website which should make registration much easier for everyone, and as soon as that system is ready, we will begin registration for the April 22-24, 2021 Landing. You can reserve your rooms at the Green Valley Ranch Resort and Casino right now. I recommend that, as April in Las Vegas is a very desirable time to visit. Click here now to reserve your room at the best rates. NOTE: The resort charges one night's rental immediately to verify your card, but you can cancel anytime up to 72 hours in advance.
Sponsors
Please join me in thanking the following vendors for their support in sponsoring the 2021 LOBO Landing in Las Vegas.
Agenda News
We have many very knowledgeable speakers lined up to present various topics of interest. A preview of a few sponsors who plan to present or be part of a discussion panel: Jason Smith, Director of Experimental Avionics at Aerotronics will be on hand to answer members questions and offer insights into new developments in avionics. Aerotronics is a Silver Sponsor, and Jason plans to bring a demonstration panel for his exhibit. Brad Simmons, of Airframes, Inc. will once again present some of his tips and advice, based on years of helping Lancair and Evolution owners build and maintain their aircraft in top condition. Pratt and Whitney Canada has signed on as a silver sponsor and will send a representative ot two. We are in the process of confirming representatives from Lancair International, Continental Aerospace Group, Garmin, and Risse Racing. All of our sponsors and potential sponsors help defray the cost of the meeting, enabling us to charge all of you a more reasonable price to attend.
We have many members who have volunteered to brief us on various topics. Chris Zavatson has agreed to do several presentations, among them, hydraulic systems overviews, aircraft inspection techniques and "musts" with an emphasis on second or third owners, stability and controllability issues in Lancairs, as well as a review of AOA. Mike Slotten will offer a briefing on a successful forced landing in his 360 at Truckee, CA. Tom Sullivan, who flies in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, has tentatively agreed to speak on considerations for cold weather flying and icing.
We are working to confirm one more keynote speaker to tie into our meeting theme of Aeronautical Decision Making, but hope to announce that person soon. You can read more about Captain Stewart Harro as well as speaker Pete Zaccagnino in previous news articles on this site.
Auction News
Auction chairperson Colyn Case continues to work to get us useful and exciting items to bid on during the silent auction. So far, we will be auctioning a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, donated by Henderson, NV based Maverick Helicopters, a three night stay for up to 20 people in a beautiful mountain lodge at Copper Mountain, Colorado, donated by Connie and George Rosel, a two night getaway for two at the Silverado Resort in Napa Valley donated by Craig and Sandy Gainza, a set of Lord mounts donated by Sue Cernak, a set of Tempest spark plugs, two hour consultation with LOBO Sponsor Brad Simmons of Airframes, Inc., and a David Clark headset. We will be highlighting the details of several of these items in our next E-news. Colyn needs more auction items. If you have some items to donate, or use of your vacation home or timeshare, these donations help fund all of the LOBO safety initiatives. Please email colyncase [at] earthlink.net to help him out. He has a specific checklist for succesful donations and will be happy to share it with you. He is also looking for a volunteer to assist him organize and make signage for the auction. Please contact him if you can help.
NEW this year! Tool contest!!! Best homebuilt tool! Prizes! Fame!
This year we are introducing a new event at the LOBO Landing. A contest for the best "homebuilt" tool to take care of your homebuilt aircraft. I have one sponsor, Cleaveland Tool, which is donating prizes worth $100. I am looking for a few more tool contest sponsors, so that we can award more prizes and make this event a lot of fun. We are also recruiting a judges panel! There aren't a lot of rules yet, but one is that this tool cannot be something for sale or patented or not replicable due to copyright. The idea of the contest is to share ideas and make everyone envy your cleverness. Start looking around your hangar or put your thinking cap on. The tool will have to be demonstrable at the Friday night hangar event.
Site Selection for Landing 2022
A few members are needed to help determine where LOBO Lands after the 2021 meeting in Las Vegas. If you are interested in site selection, local arrangements or anything in regards to the planning of our next event, please contact me. This is a lot of work for one person, I can use some help from interested members. Thank you in advance.
Next update will be by direct email regarding registration. I hope you will plan to join us in April for a gathering long overdue!
