My Legacy kit came with Goodyears for the
mains, but some off-brand Chinese tire for the nose wheel.  I don't trust
it, don't like the feel of it, don't like anything about it.  Michelle, at
KCI, says they only have the Chinese tire for the nose wheel.  What are
some of you using?  I know I had a Goodyear on my last Legacy.

Jim,

Uh, the tire is well tested as Lancair 235/320/360's have been using them
for both mains and nose for years (well, maybe a year at a
time).  Don't worry, it will keep you from an off airport landing since
each one is carefully placarded "Not For Highway Use."  Recently the
max pressure has been raised from 70 psi to 90 psi.  Anyway, keep it well
inflated and it won't wear the inner tube sidewall so thin that leaky pin-holes
form.

PS.  Many of us carry a spare since it is not commonly
found at Signature FBOs.  Or, if you should ever need one, just contact the
nearest 235/320/360 builder/pilot.

just installed a aero classic from Desser tire
co....looks like same tire still made in China town,8 ply rating and up to 94
psi ,I believe that is a psi increase over the Lamb. When looking at the Lambs I
recently removed from the mains one was 8ply and one 6ply.

I need to replace my nose wheel.  Does
anyone have a recommendation as to brand and source for this tire/tube?

Bill,

I put a reTread, Dressler on my nose recently.  I have been happy with it.  It is a smidge taller.  ReTreads are supposed to have a longer tread life and are about half as much.  I did purchase a new tube.  Remember that after changing the tube and tire it will take a few weeks for the tube to settle into the new tire.  That means it will take tire pressure checks and top offs during this period.

Also, I am not sure how a slightly taller retread will work in your retractable gear airplane.

George,

My Legacy is a fixed gear so no problem if
the tire doesn’t hit the top of the yoke.  I put retreads on the
mains last year and I am really pleased with them but I don’t think that I
saw retreads of the size I need for the front tire.  I remember it to be
11 X 4.00-5.

What size was your front tire?

Bill
