Did you realize it’s only 4 weeks until the best event of Oshkosh!!!  It’s the LOBO banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn, Oshkosh, Thursday, July 28.  Have you made your reservations???

If not – then you better make them right now!   Go to lancairowners.com and click on the link to purchase tickets and for more information.  We’ll be entertained after a scrumptious buffet dinner of 2 entrees w/all the trimmings by Mark Patey.  Mark set a new transcontinental record in March of this year in his Lancair Legacy.

No-Host Bar opens at 5:30 p.m.

For those of us who stay an hour or so away from Oshkosh and realize that after a (typical Wisconsin August) day of walking the grounds we’re not even close to being presentable enough to go to any sort of social occasion (except maybe at some biker gang’s clubhouse, and even then we’d be marginal), is there someplace in or close to this venue where we could take a shower and change clothes? A gym that offers 1-day guest memberships or something?

One week from tomorrow we’ll attend the most fun gathering at Oshkosh – the annual LOBO banquet.  This is your last reminder that reservations are a must …….. as well as payment in advance.  PayPal is the only method now as checks cannot arrive before our Board members leave for Oshkosh.  We cannot accept credit cards at the door as we will not have a secure connection.  If you absolutely cannot prepay (and this does create a problem for us as we have to guarantee our number to the Best Western Monday and pay in full at that time) then you’ll be taking potluck on our having room left for additional guests.  And you will need to pay by either cash or check at the door. Don’t be left out!

 

We have received requests from a couple of people for rides to the Best Western – please let us know well in advance so we can make arrangements for everyone who needs a ride to/from the field.

The gathering starts early… 5 PM for drinks. Some will come directly from the airshow and will be dressed for that.


Most of us will shower and clean up…at least a little. Slacks and golf shirt are appropriate, but you’ll see all forms of dress…except I’ve never seen a jacket and tie… Slacks or casual dress for ladies.

It’s Here – It’s Exciting – It’s time for the 2014 Oshkosh LOBO Banquet

July 31, 2014 at the Best Western Premiere Waterfront Hotel, Atheran Ballroom in downtown Oshkosh

Our very special guest speaker this year will be

Alan Zwick – telling us about his “15 minutes of fame” when he set the World Record in a U-2 (2000 kg payload to 66,925’) as well as a history of the U-2 program and a typical mission profile.

Alan has been a captain/check airman for Southwest Airlines based in Oakland, CA.  beginning with them in 2000.  His wife Allison is a Southwest flight attendant. After growing up on a farm near Lyons, KS Alan graduated with the US Air Force Academy Class of ’86.  He spent 14 years on Active Duty with the U.S. Air Force  flying the KC135R, T-37, U-2 and T-38.   He spent an additional 8 years with the Air Force Reserves as a U-2 staff officer retiring in 2008 as a Lieutenant Colonel.    He is an ATP, CFI, CFII, MEI with over 15,000 hours flight time.  He also owns and flies a Grumann Tiger.  

And, of course, the opportunity to visit with the stellar cast of Lancair pilots and their spouses/guests.
