The exhaust leaving the exhaust port cools because it expands.
Putting a second probe further down the pipe will show a lower
temperature IF the gases have expanded on their way to the
second probe. On the other hand, if there is some restriction
in the flow path (like a turbine) that has kept the pressure
from dropping, then the temperature will not drop either.

PV = nRT
(still true 87 years after Nernst got his Nobel prize)

There are second and third reasons why the TIT is typically
higher than the open-pipe EGT. The lower compression ratio
with the turbo engine means that the combustion gases have
expanded (and cooled) less than in the normally-aspirated
engine. Also, the turbo engine may have had a higher intake
gas temperature (and pressure) before compression and combustion.

While that's true, the EGTs will also be higher from the lower compression ratios and the higher IATs.

Hello all,

I have a question about probes for the TIT sensor on the TSIO-550.  I have GRT monitor and modified Garrett turbos, so I'm told. GRT apparently doesn't sell the probes that match the picture I sent them but they did tell me they need a K-type thermocouple.  My question is can anyone tell me where to get replacement probes for this system?   I have one bad one.

Thanks

John,

This is what I was told by GRT  when I needed new TIT probes , "TIT probe -

Model B Alcor EGT probe type K Part # 86245 from Aircraft Spruce (at that

time $79.95 each)". This is actually an EGT probe but this is what I needed

for my Chelton system.

Any type K probes should be available from Electronics International that will work with the GRT EIS.
